Debunking the Myth That “No Story Is Original”
Your voice is what makes a story unique.
I strongly disagree with the notion that writing a book is pointless because “everything has been done before.” It’s disheartening to think of all the untold stories because authors believe theirs won’t be unique enough.
Tons of annoying self-publishing advice insists on the need for a completely new, gripping, or original idea to succeed. However, it’s true that while many themes have been explored, originality lies in how you present them.
You can’t copyright a word or phrase, and it’s unlikely your story line is entirely original. With millions of books published yearly, similarities are inevitable.
However, your characters, plot, setting, and narrative will always have your unique touch.
Courage in a World of “Nothing New”
In a world where it seems like everything has already been said and done, it’s easy to feel discouraged about creating something original.
But your voice, your insights, and your personal touch are what will make your writing stand out, even in a sea of similar stories. There’s no reason at all that you shouldn’t try or start.
