It’s July, so you know what that means: it’s time to plot and write a quick Christmas novella to boost your book sales!

As I’ve probably written about before, I’ve been obsessed with the SPA Girls Podcast for a few years now. These four ladies help self-published authors work through the insane amount of information you need to know when you start publishing your own books.

In one of their episodes — the number now escapes me — they suggested that it’s best to have written your Christmas novel or novella (and publish it) by December 11th. Apparently, this gets your book in front of Christmas shoppers by the time they unwrap their Amazon gift cards.

I’m not sure why December 11th was listed as the sweet spot, but I trust the SPA Girls to get me through. And for self-publishing authors, starting your Christmas novel in July is a golden opportunity to increase sales and draw readers to your backlist.

Why Write a Christmas Novel?

Christmas stories are really, really popular. Readers love the holiday cheer, romance, and magic that a Christmas-themed book has to offer.
