Unlocking the Mindset of a Professional Writer
If you want to make money at this, you need to do the work.
If you want to be a self-published author, a blogger, or a content writer — and make real money at it — you must take writing seriously.
Just write. Stop stalling and get those words down on paper!
Today, I want to talk about how to change your way of thinking to a professional mindset; to make a commitment, take writing seriously, and treat your craft with respect!
Taking My Writing Seriously
I was in college when I first started as a freelance writer. I didn’t treat it like a hobby it, though. I treated it like a serious side hustle — because it was one.
Before I tried freelancing for the first time, I was a writing tutor on campus. I made maybe $200-$300 a month. At the time, I was struggling with car trouble, high food prices, and a lack of other financial support. But I couldn’t get a “real” job off campus, either.
So, I started a Fiverr, closed my door, sat on my little twin bed or at my uncomfortable desk chair, and did the work. I wrote articles about dog food, toys, and products for a whole year for what felt like pennies.
