Why I Dislike Freewrite’s Message About Writers

You don’t need a gadget to become a prolific writer.

In a world full of distractions, writers are constantly bombarded with new gadgets promising the key to productivity. But what if these tools are just capitalizing on our struggles?

As a full-time content writer and blogger, I am constantly sharpening my pen and skills when it comes to kicking procrastination’s ass. For me, a little bit of Lofi Girl in the background and setting a timer can help get my words on the page. For other people, they use programs like Write or Die, join groups on NaNoWriMo, or they’ll unplug, turn off their phone or WiFi, and write by hand.

Every writer is different, and that’s okay.

I know that a lot of products help writers improve their writing habits, productivity, and, ultimately, their careers. But when I see things like the Freewrite word processor, I get a little steamed.

To me, it feels like products like these are trying to make money off of one of humanity’s biggest struggles: focusing.

“LIFE CAN BE NOISY | Thankfully, there’s Freewrite. Distraction-free drafting tools designed for focused writing.” — Freewrite’s homepage.
